Bilal was already working part time as a customer service representative for a progressive retailer in Leicester.

Bilal was by approached by Umair who informed Bilal about the benefits of taking on an apprenticeship and the tailored training involved. They discussed the opportunity involved and the benefits to both the employer and his career progression.

Given he hadn’t had any previous training and was initially reluctant; he felt it wouldn’t have been beneficial.

Umair advised Bilal that Pathway will support him as much as possible and it was a great opportunity to prove his competence in his existing job role.

Bilal felt his assessor was exemplary. He communicated well and supported him fully in throughout the programme including his functional skills Maths and English. Bilal required further support with his Functional skills as he had completed his GCSEs 7 years ago and were no longer valid. Bilal required one to one support and his assessor was flexible in providing him the support sessions.

Whilst completing is portfolio of evidence his job role included serving customers, till operating, cash handling, stock control and managing displays.

Upon completing his apprenticeship Bilal was approached by management and given the opportunity to take on a manager role. Management felt he had proved he was reliable, hardworking and responsible. He wilfully took the opportunity with both hands and has an increased level of responsibility.

Bilal is currently managing The Islamic Establishment and has assisted in recruiting a further two new apprentices for his business. Manager Bilal is now a confident coach and very supportive of the development his apprentices.

He is currently completing a level 3 QCF programme in Management with Pathway.

His employer says ‘Pathway were supportive and encouraging their assessor was flexible and met the business requirements well!

In the 18 months that Bilal has been with them he has taken on increased responsibility and they now have a competent reliable Manager.

They are very pleased with Bilal’s performance.
